Week 11 Blog Post
During this week's class, we got to explore many different hands-on labs. The main point of this activity was to discover the why. Many young students want to know why, but we don't know how to explain it. We can understand what is happening and why it's happening, but how do you explain this to someone who doesn't understand. I think that this was a really interesting way to explore this idea. We discovered so many different things during this activity. The most interesting one was the baking soda and vinegar. We knew as older students what was going to happen, but we were not sure how it happened. I think that doing these experiment help us learn how to teach ideas like these, but also can help students in the classroom ask question and be curious during experienmenting. Asking question is a good way for studetns to learn and start to understand they why of things happening.
Hi Megan!
ReplyDeleteI really like how you explained that the main point of this week's lab is to try to explain the why of things that happen in science. I think this is the hardest part of science, but also the most crucial part. I also agree that doing these experiments ourselves helps us to better teach these ideas.
I agree that one of our biggest things to think about after this week is how we explain these phenomenons. As you mentioned, we often understand why these things happen, but have trouble explaining the real "scientific" reason.
