Week 6 Blog Post

This week in class we learned about turtles and how only 1 out of 1000 baby turtles make it to the water from the sand. The turtles take 3 days to get from the water to the sand and so many natural and human activities stop or kill the baby turtles on the way to the ocean. Some natural factors include weather or animals like raccoons. Some human activities are plastic bags in the ocean or jeep tracks that block the turtles from reaching the water. We also got to view our plants again and use the dried bees to pollinate the flowers to continue to grow bigger. I thought it was really interesting to see how much these flowers have grown over the past few weeks.

Using the bee to place pollen on the flower.
The whole flower after growth from another week.

  1. Hi Megan!
I like how you mentioned some of the factors that go into whether sea turtles survive to get to the ocean or not. From a couple other blog posts I have read, and from my own, I think we all found it very shocking that only 1 in 1,000 sea turtles actually make it to sea. Lastly, I also found it very interesting how much the fast plants have grown.

  2. Hi Megan! I love the pictures you posted they look very artistic and the bee looks cute perfectly grabbing onto your stick. I also found it interesting to learn more about the different factors that could harm or kill the turtles as they journey to the sea but it was also cool to learn the ways that we can help them too.
