Week 13 Blog Post

  1. What did you do in lab today?
    1. In lab today we, we help figure out why the Goldfinch is in danger in Iowa. We got to look at 5 articles, and learn facts in these articles about cliamte change. We also got to make a statment and ask questions. I thought this was very imformative for me as someone who lives in Iowa 9 months out of the year.

  1. What was the main lab question?
    1. How do we know that the Goldfinch is in danger in Iowa?
  2. What did you learn in Thursday's discussion?
  3. In lecture we discussed
  4. Online Textbook:
    1. What did you learn?
      1. One thing I learned was that melting sea ice is affecting more than just the Arctic. It is affecting our entire world. These sea ices are the air conditioning for the world, and the melting is drastically changing.
    2. What was most helpful?
      1. One thing that was very helpful was the part of glacier retreat. I knew that these were retreating, but I never knew how much it was reatrating. Climate change has led to warmer temperatures overall. This means that glaciers melt at a faster rate than snow falls to rebuild the glacier’s mass, a phenomenon called glacier retreat.
    3. What do you need more information on?
      1. Something I need more imformation on is the idea of sea explansion. This is due to thermal expansion. I am not sure I understand this concept though becuase I dont understand how it can be expanding unless the glaciers are melting.
  5. What questions, concerens, and/or comments do you have?
    1. How do we prevent the glaciers from retreating?
